My two sons

One son sleeps in the room next door

One son sleeps in a box engraved with his name

One son will awake to sunshine and the promise of life

One son is forever asleep

One son bounces on a trampoline and scrapes his knees when he falls

One son bounces on clouds and falls onto rainbows

One son wakes me by gently touching my shoulder and asks me to snuggle him in

One son visits my dream then quickly dissipated in the waking hours

One son has a face and a story so different from mine

One son has my lips and my fingers and features I’ll never again see

My two sons

My reason for life

My ultimate satisfaction

My deepest sadness

My two sons
